Blaga is a recently widowed former teacher and a woman of firm morals. When telephone scammers con her out of the money that she had saved for her husband’s grave, her moral compass slowly begins to lose its bearings.

Stephan Komandarev

Born in 1966 in Sofia, Bulgaria, he graduated in Film & TV directing at the New Bulgarian University. After making his first feature Dog’s Home (2001) and several documentary films, he directed in 2008 The World Is Big, the first Bulgarian film shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His next film The Judgement was the Bulgarian entry for the 2015 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Directions premiered at Un Certain Regard two years later. Blaga’s Lessons is his sixth feature film.
