Over the years, Nacer Belkacem has built an enviable position: loving father, happy husband, model employee, and respected citizen of his community. But under the clean surface, something is cracking. Nacer has racked up expenses, made some questionable investments, and fallen deep into debt. As his world unravels, he hatches a desperate plan to stay afloat. One life, one shot at heaven.

Mathieu Denis

Montreal-based filmmaker Mathieu Denis has developed a body of work shaped by questions of identity, history, and politics. His first feature, Laurentia (2011), co-directed with Simon Lavoie, premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. In 2015, Corbo, his first solo film, was selected for the Toronto and Berlin film festivals. His third feature, Those Who Make Revolution Halfway Only Dig Their Own Graves (2017), also co-directed with Lavoie, followed a similar path, winning the award for Best Canadian Feature at Toronto and receiving a Special Mention for the Crystal Bear at the Berlinale.
