George Sluizer (1932 – 2014)
Born in the Netherlands, he began his career by directing documentaries before switching to fiction in 1972 with João and the Knife, his feature debut. In 1988, he met a large international audience with The Vanishing, before directing the American remake of the same film five years later with Kiefer Sutherland, Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock in the main roles. His works also remains marked by the cursed film Dark Blood, the last film starring River Phoenix, who died in 1993 before the shooting was completed.
