In a crime-ridden Rio de Janeiro, Regina and Valério are looking for a way out of the criminal hornets’ nest they call the “family business”. One night, they decide the only way out is to kill the boss, Valério’s uncle, and sell the business, thus falling into the spiral of violence they wanted to escape.

Fernando Coimbra

Graduated in Cinema from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, Fernando Coimbra wrote and directed nine short films, including Tropic of Goats, which won five awards at the Brasília Film Festival in 2007. In 2013, he directed his first feature, A Wolf at the Door, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, then directed two episodes of the first season of series Narcos. He then directed his second feature, Sand Castle, broadcast on Netflix in 2017, and various episodes of series Outcast, Narcos, What/If and Perry Mason. Carnival Is Over is his third feature film.
