Jan-Ole Gerster
Born in Hagen, Germany, Jan-Ole Gerster gained experience on several film productions including Tom Tykwer’s The Princess and the Warrior (2000) and Heaven (2002). He then worked as personal assistant of director Wolfgang Becker on Goodbye Lenin! (2003) and later studied directing and screenwriting at the DFFB (Deutschen Film und Fernsehakademie Berlin). After directing several commercials and music videos, he wrote and directed his feature debut A Coffee in Berlin which was a breakout international success in 2012. Islands is his third film.
