Prison 77

Alberto Rodríguez

Hors Compétition

Spain, 1977. At the end of Francoism, the country is experiencing one of the most important moments of freedom in its history. But the democratic transition does not change anything in the prisons. Manuel, a young accountant, faces a sentence of 6 to 8 years for embezzlement, a punishment disproportionate to the crime committed. Soon, together with his cellmate Pino, he joins COPEL, a prisoners’ association that fights for the rights of common law prisoners and for amnesty.
